Petru Lucinschi

Former President of Moldova

Born on 27 January 1940, Petru Lucinschi served as the second President of the Republic of Moldova. He graduated from Moldova State University. During the Soviet period, he held long-term leadership positions in the Komsomol and the Communist Party in Moldova. From 1992 to 1993, he served as Moldova's Ambassador to Russia. In February 1993, he was elected Speaker of Parliament. From January 1997 to April 2001, he served as President of the Republic of Moldova.

A politician committed to national transition and international cooperation, Lucinschi enjoys an international reputation. He is also an active promoter of China–Moldova friendship: he visited China multiple times, spoke highly of China's development achievements, and supported bilateral economic, trade, and cultural exchanges under the Belt and Road framework. After leaving office, he served as Chairman of the Lucinschi Foundation for strategic research and development in international relations.
