Former President of Bolivia
Born on 5 May 1960 in Cochabamba, Bolivia, he has a strong professional background. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and an MBA in the United States. He held important finance-related posts, serving as Minister of Finance from 1992 to 1993, and in 1997 was elected Vice President and President of Congress.
He served as President of Bolivia from August 2001 to August 2002, becoming one of the youngest presidents in Bolivia's history. During his term, he faced severe economic challenges and worked to promote growth, tackle political corruption, and ease social discontent. After leaving office, he remained active in politics and public policy, including leading the parliamentary opposition and chairing a public-policy think tank.
